UPDATE How to Handle Level 5 Restrictions

By nguadmin, Thursday, 22nd October 2020 | 0 comments

As you will be aware, the Government last night confirmed its decision to move the whole country to Level 5 restrictions for six weeks from midnight on Wednesday 21st October. Level 5 on the Living with COVID-19 Plan means business owners face much tighter restrictions on travel and work.

Some of the key measures include:

working from home where possible unless staff are providing an essential service that demands their physical presence
travel outside a 5km radius of home is prohibited unless it is for essential work and essential purposes
public transport will operate at only 25% capacity
only essential retail and essential services will remain open
bars, cafés, restaurants and wet pubs may provide take-away and delivery services only. Wet pubs in Dublin are to remain closed.

For many business owners, this means they will have the difficult task of telling staff there will be no work for them come Thursday morning.

There are Government supports available that could help you save jobs. Both the Pandemic Unemployment Payment and the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme payment rates have been increased to a maximum of €350 per week. If your business has been forced to shut down again, you may also qualify to receive up to €5,000 per week under the new COVID-19 Restrictions Support Scheme.

This latest round of restrictions leaves business owners with many tough HR decisions.
